Thursday Temptations

Last week we made a lot of new recipes.  And might I just say that although some of them took forever, they were very, very, very tasty.  I highly recommend the turkey pot pie!  It was surprisingly easy and so good.  David and I both went back for seconds.  I think next time I'll double the recipe so I can freeze it.  Yes, that's right.  None made it to the freezer.  We gobbled up four "servings" the night we made it and the next day we did the same thing with the leftovers.  Oh and because I didn't feel like trying to make the pie crust dough, I bought some pillsbury pie crust from the refrigerated section and it was flaky and tasted just as good.  It was very, very easy and so comforting!
Anyway, this week we are going to try to have a cheap grocery list because I've got a lot on my Christmas and toiletries list to get soon.  Hopefully with all the Pioneer Woman recipes and carefully using our leftovers, we'll be able to keep the bill under $40.  Here's hoping!

Thursday:
I went searching for a recipe that will satisfy my man before he heads to work.  I saw this recipe for Steak Fingers with gravy on Pioneer Woman's blog and I just knew it was the one.  It looks very messy, but aren't all the best recipes?  I mean when have you had something that was messy and not fantastic?  Anyways, I figure we'll have grapes with this just like she had for her nephews.  And because I love baked potatoes right now.  We'll add some to this meal too!  Looks good, doesn't it?!

Friday:
David's day off is today and I plan to utilize it to the fullest.  I am hoping to not only get some much needed cleaning done around the house but to also work on the yard.  Our yard is so sad right now.  So I think we'll both work up a huge appetite for dinner tonight.  Nothing says "sit down and relax" like a warm bowl of chicken soup.  Well maybe a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts... maybe that's just the pregnancy talking.  Well I still have celery and carrots to use up from last week so I thought this Chicken Soup recipe from Pioneer woman would be perfect.  The best part about this recipe is that after the chopping and prepping you stick everything in a big pot and let the bird cook for a while.  It's a very hands off meal and I LOVE that idea!  We'll have some of Logan's Roadhouse Rolls with this soup and I think it'll be a warm, comforting, and cozy meal.

Saturday:
With so many servings in the chicken soup, we'll be having some warm and tasty leftovers today.  I think I'll probably make a grilled cheese sandwich on the side so I can fit in some dairy into the diet.  I have been known to down three glasses of milk in one hour now that I'm growing a baby.

Sunday:
This recipe from Pioneer Woman looked fast and cheap.  Two of my favorite words together.  This only applies to cooking of course.  I wouldn't want you to form any other ideas about me.  Ahem--  the Penne with Chicken Thighs requires only minor prep and uses store bought marinara sauce too!  I love that it'll have a fresh flavor by adding a few tweaks to the sauce.  And the meat will be falling off the bone by then end.  We'll have a side salad to balance out the meal.

Monday:
Unfortunately, David has to go into work early today so we'll be using the leftovers from yesterday to enjoy a hearty and healthy-ish meal before he leaves.

Tuesday:
Speaking of leftovers, we'll be thawing out some of the Italian Meatball Soup from last week to use today.  We have to be quick about our meal today because we have our OBGYN appointment and will be rushing to get home and eat before David leaves for work.  I liked this soup a lot.  It took almost three hours from start to finish which sucked, but it was tasty and made a lot of servings which was good.  I think if I wasn't pregnant and didn't have the swelling feet or the extra load in my belly, it would've worn me out less.

Wednesday:
I didn't think we really had a lot of veggies this week, so I decided to go with one of my staples for dinner today.  We are going to make Pioneer Woman's Cheeseburger Salad and have a baked potato on the side.  I love how fast and oh-so-delicious this salad is.

Enjoy!
